We are delighted to welcome you to our Castelwood estate, a haven of peace nestling in a green setting at the foot of the magnificent Château de Biron.
The birth of Lodges
We walk in the footsteps of the Niemeijer family, grateful for having imagined such a beautiful place. We experience the tranquillity and beauty of the site at first hand. We walk along paths that go deep into the forest, listening for the sound of deer and squirrels. We contemplate the many species of trees that inhabit this forest, lulled by the song of the birds. In the distance, the majestic and imposing Château rises up!
From design to manufacture, these small lodges emerge from the wood, respecting the forest as much as possible so as not to disturb the wildlife.
In 12 months, the former owners built 11 chalets, and opened for the first season in 2005. In 2007, they added a further 4 chalets to the park.
The 2019 season will see yet another type of construction: the upper chalet, a tree house with a magnificent view of Biron castle.
And in winter 2021, 3 comfortable safari tents in the heart of the forest, raised on platforms, have been added.

A family history
Our story begins with a meeting between Maaike, Jean-Guillaume, Jaya and Charlie Niemeijer, the founders of Castelwood. It was a meeting of the hearts, and the estate is the embodiment of an incredible journey. As Parisians in search of a second life, we were taken by surprise...
For years, every chance we got, we escaped from our Parisian suburb to reconnect with simple, true things. At the time, we were thinking of moving into the open-air hotel business, so that we could welcome and share with as many people as possible our passion for hiking, gastronomy and discovering our heritage, and enable everyone to recharge their batteries in the heart of nature. Castelwood seemed to us to be the right place to bring our bold yet simple project to life!
So we decided to leave our respective jobs as School Director and IT Manager to embark on this incredible adventure.
